Exploring MusicFX by Google
MusicFX is one such tool launched last December as part of the Google AI Test Kitchen, where experimental AI tools are hosted. It generates music from text prompts that may be used as backgrounds for video games or even just simple beats for fun.
Recently added DJ Mode allows more fine-grained control so that sound changes can be made while listening to tracks in real-time rather than needing to render new ones each time.
How does DJ Mode work?
In live performances produced by DJs, sounds generated by DJs themselves are manipulated like this through the use of DJ mode in Music FX.
Unlike other musical instruments controlled by artificial intelligence like Suno, Cassette AI, and Adobe’s Music GenAI Control, this mode feels more like a performance tool rather than a song creation suite by Google DJ mode which emphasizes interactivity allowing users to create Live Loops and manipulate sound dynamically within context.
DJ Pazs Verdict
In the video clip below DJ Paz goes deep on the capabilities of MusicFX and also tests its limits as well as possible applications for it. Additionally, he pits Gemini against queries connected to DJs thus giving us an idea of how these AI can aid or enhance our DJing experience.
Nonetheless, DJ Paz concludes that MusicFX is a fun and innovative tool for experimenting with music though it has some limitations such as the inability to generate songs with vocals or include tracks mentioning specific artists.
