Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Series Might Not Include a Plus Model

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Series Might Not Include a Plus Model
Key Points
  • The absence of Galaxy S25 Plus is hinted by IMEI database.
  • Speculations are triggered by the discovery of S25 and S25 Ultra model numbers.
  • Previous Plus models have sold poorly.
  • Some reports conflict with others, suggesting that there might still be an S25 Plus.

In an unexpected twist, model numbers for Samsung’s forthcoming Galaxy S25 and S25 Ultra have emerged online. What is conspicuous by its absence, however, is any sign of the Galaxy S25 Plus.

This has led to speculation that Samsung may be looking to streamline its offering, focusing only on core and Ultra models. The IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) database was behind the find, which was made by Android Headlines – a well-known hunting ground for early smartphone leaks.

The IMEI database – used for tracking lost or stolen phones – frequently reveals details about new devices ahead of their official unveiling. Android Headlines found model number SM-S931B/DS for the regular Galaxy S25 and several entries for the S25 Ultra: SM-S938B (for global), SM-S938U (US), SM-S938N (South Korea), and SM-S9380 (region unspecified).

Sales Trends and Strategic Shifts

The absence of an IMEI entry for the Galaxy S25 Plus has naturally led to suggestions that Samsung could drop this model. Historically speaking, Pluses has had sales problems as people tend to go with either the base or Ultra options.

Simplifying its lineup is not unheard-of for Samsung; in previous years leading up to 2021 they put out four models per annum but later cut it down to three.

It is thought among industry observers that getting rid of the plus variant might work better because more buyers would then think – oh yes let me just buy this now instead! But some say you never know how these things will turn out.

Conflicting Reports

All isn’t necessarily as it seems though: Dutch tech news site GalaxyClub reckons we’re still going to get three models from Samsung, with the S25 Plus also included. They say that F2 is the internal designation of the plus model and has model number SM-S936.

This could be seen as more than just idle talk since GalaxyClub has been pretty reliable when it comes to leaking info about what Samsung’s up to over the years – but there’s no getting around one fact right now: The IMEI database doesn’t list an S25 Plus.

Adding further confusion into the mix is 9To5Google suggesting that maybe Sammy is just holding off on loading up S25 Plus details because we’re still months away from this series landing. These conflicting reports mean we must keep watching closely until launch day arrives.

Galaxy S25 Series Hype

Regardless of the many versions, big things are expected for the Galaxy S25 series. Leaks indicate some sizeable design changes and batteries larger than those found in last year’s S24 lineup. Take all this with a pinch of salt as ever until official word lands.
