Microsoft has officially unveiled the Surface Laptop 5G, a high-performance, AI-integrated, and always-connected laptop tailored for the modern business world.

Set to launch on August 26, the Surface Laptop 5G starts at $1,799.99 and is powered by Intelโ€™s new Core Ultra Series 2 chips, complete with an onboard NPU (neural processing unit) for advanced Copilot Plus AI features.

This new Surface laptop is built on the familiar 13.8-inch Surface Laptop 7 design but comes with important upgrades, most notably built-in 5G support. It includes both eSIM and a physical nano SIM slot, offering flexibility and uninterrupted connectivity for professionals on the move.

The base model includes:

  • Intel Core Ultra 5 processor

  • 16GB of RAM

  • 256GB of SSD storage

The top-tier version, priced at $2,699, offers:

  • Intel Core Ultra 7 processor

  • 32GB of RAM

  • 1TB SSD

All configurations come in Microsoftโ€™s platinum silver finish, maintaining the premium look and feel Surface devices are known for.

This launch also follows recent updates from Microsoft on SharePoint Servers, reinforcing its broader commitment to business and enterprise solutions.

Built with Seamless Mobility in Mind

Microsoft didnโ€™t just add a modem โ€” it reimagined how connectivity should work in a mobile-first world. The Surface Laptop 5G features a custom-built six-antenna system that dynamically adapts to its surroundings, ensuring fast and stable 5G connections.

Nancie Gaskill, general manager of Surface, emphasized that this wasnโ€™t a plug-and-play solution. โ€œThis design required a new material,โ€ she noted, โ€œthat allows radio signals to pass through without compromising strength or style.โ€

Microsoft created a custom multi-layered laminate to support strong signals while keeping the device light and durable.

The nano SIM slot is conveniently placed next to the Surface Connect charging port, making it easy to access without disrupting the deviceโ€™s clean design.

Microsoft says the Surface Laptop 5G has been tested with 100+ mobile operators across 50 countries, ensuring global compatibility. And as a bonus, it can even function as a 5G mobile hotspot, letting users share their high-speed connection with other devices via Wi-Fi.

This seamless connectivity puts Microsoft in a competitive position alongside other tech giants ramping up innovationโ€”like the upcoming Google Pixel 10 launch expected to bring surprises later this August.

Copilot Plus and AI Integration Take Center Stage

One of the biggest upgrades in the Surface Laptop 5G is the integration of Microsoft Copilot Plus, enabled by the built-in neural processing unit (NPU) in Intelโ€™s Core Ultra Series 2 chips.

With this hardware, the Surface Laptop 5G is optimized for the next generation of Windows 11 features, including AI-powered task automation, real-time transcription, smart file search, and predictive writing tools.

These features aim to save users time and reduce repetitive tasks by learning usage patterns and automating them in the background.

Microsoft is betting big on local AI processing, and the Surface Laptop 5G delivers just thatโ€”offering a smooth, fast experience without relying solely on the cloud. Business professionals will be able to work more efficiently, whether theyโ€™re in the office, at a client meeting, or traveling.

Other companies are also taking bold AI-driven steps. For example, Teslaโ€™s India launch is expected to heavily integrate smart mobility solutions powered by real-time data and AI.

A New Chapter for the Surface Ecosystem

The Surface Laptop 5G isnโ€™t launching in isolation. Itโ€™s part of a broader push by Microsoft to create a family of AI-enhanced, always-connected devices designed for productivity.

Alongside the Surface Laptop 5G, the company has also announced the availability of the updated Surface Laptop 13-inch and Surface Pro 12-inch, all tuned for the Copilot Plus experience.

With these releases, Microsoft is targeting enterprise users who need security, performance, and constant connectivity, especially in todayโ€™s hybrid work environment.

As AI features become central to Windows 11 and future Microsoft tools, the Surface line is evolving to keep up, with the Surface Laptop 5G leading the charge.

Meanwhile, competitors like Apple are also dealing with their high-profile headlines, including the ongoing iOS 26 secrets leak lawsuit. And in the chip space, Nvidiaโ€™s China chip sales reveal how strategic hardware moves are shaping the next generation of computing power.

Whether you’re managing teams remotely or working across continents, this new generation of Surface devices promises to make your workflow smoother, smarter, and always online.
