Samsung appears to have accidentally leaked its upcoming trifold phone, and it’s turning heads. Spotted by Android Authority within the latest One UI 8 update, animations reveal a never-before-seen foldable phone with a dual-hinge trifold design, possibly called the Galaxy G Fold or Multifold 7.

This unexpected leak gives us a detailed look at the device’s structure, including how it folds, camera positioning, and even the NFC chip location.

While this might not be the final version, all signs point to an imminent reveal, likely at Samsung’s Unpacked event on July 9, where new Z Fold and Z Flip models are also expected.

Samsung’s trifold would be its most complex folding phone yet, making it a direct competitor to Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate Design, which debuted last September as the first commercial trifold. However, Samsung’s approach is clearly different—and possibly smarter.

The trifold design reflects how tech companies are racing to reshape the mobile experience, much like Honor’s Magic V5, which recently became the thinnest foldable phone ever made, pushing design boundaries to new extremes.

Dual-Hinge, Triple Display, and Smarter Folding Design

According to the leaked animations, Samsung’s trifold will feature:

• Three separate display panels

• A dual-hinge mechanism

• A rear triple-camera setup is located on the right-hand panel

• NFC chip embedded in the rear camera panel

• A front-facing camera on the central cover display

When unfolded, the device becomes a massive tablet-like screen, with the front camera placed on the rightmost panel, which also houses the rear cameras on the opposite side.

Samsung’s hinge design is especially interesting. Unlike Huawei’s Z-shaped folding in the Mate XT, Samsung’s animation shows an asymmetrical fold: the left panel folds inward first, then the right panel folds over it. One animation even warns users not to fold the right panel first, likely due to the camera bump preventing it from lying flat.

This design could make Samsung’s trifold more durable compared to Huawei’s, which leaves part of its display exposed even when folded. The Samsung version, in contrast, appears to protect the screen more effectively when closed.

Also notable is the blank rear on the left-hand panel. This allows the right panel, which includes the camera bump, to fold flush over it without damage. It’s a smart touch that shows Samsung is thinking not just about aesthetics, but also functionality and protection.

What’s clear, however, is that Samsung is preparing a major move in the foldable space.
