Key Points
  • There is hope for the iPad Mini to undergo a major display modification and switch to OLED.
  • Late 2024 through 2026 are potential release dates.
  • They might make it thinner and lighter in their design updates.
  • It may keep its competitive pricing around or under $599.

Rumored to be Apple’s smallest tablet device yet, the iPad Mini is said to receive a massive upgrade that involves an OLED display. This move would not be uncharacteristic of Apple who just recently adopted this type of screen with the introduction of the iPad Pro M4 on May 7th before the WWDC 2024 event.

With this changeover into OLEDs also comes improved media consumption capabilities through enhanced visual quality; if indeed it happens like that can you imagine how much better everything will look on your new mini?

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at Apple, production for the next iPad mini should start sometime during Q3 2024. This model could be called the iPad mini 7 since it will most likely come out after we’ve already seen another one released earlier this year (the sixth generation).

However, ZDNet Korea reports that they have heard from research firm Omdia that there might not even be any iPads with OLED displays until two years later — in other words not until alongside some new airs too! So if this timeline holds true then perhaps these incremental changes could occur leading up-to them releasing version eight which features one such screen.

Apple usually likes to release iPads in the fall – many models have historically launched during September. Considering this pattern mid-to-late September seems like it would be when we see an old iPad mini, regardless of what year exactly.

Premium Pricing for a Premium Display

The iPad mini has always positioned itself as a premium product despite having less real estate on your screen.

Right now you can get the base model for $499 which is $150 more expensive than getting a tenth-generation base iPad ($349).

But with an OLED display, these numbers could be justified because then Apple would have two devices that start at $599 and offer better displays — one being larger (the air).

Sleek Design and Advanced Features

The rumored Oled ipad mini is said to have a sleeker design than before. Apple has reportedly been working on making all of its products thinner, and we saw this with the ultra-thin chassis of the iPad pro m4 in May 2024. They’ve already made it pretty comfortable to hold so I’m interested in seeing what they do next.

With vibrant colors and deep blacks, an OLED display would be great for media consumption on this little guy since he’s only about 8 inches big. It might look quite different though due to its new design — also, expect them to fix that jelly scrolling issue from last time around once they switch over to organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) technology; makes things smoother.

It’ll probably support ProMotion too even though that’s usually reserved for Pros – just saying! It might work with the recently announced Apple pencil pro which features squeeze controls for more intuitive use; however, this will require them to change where they put their magnetic charger so there could be some other changes inside too!

A Powerhouse in a Small Package

The OLED iPad Mini is also expected to receive performance upgrades. Currently powered by an A15 Bionic chip, the next iteration might have a stronger processor that supports Apple’s new artificial intelligence platform, Apple Intelligence.

This program needs significant processing power; therefore, the OLED iPad Mini may come with an A18 chip or even an M-series chip – although this could be too much for such a small device.

In short, the OLED iPad Mini is set to take things up a notch with better screen quality, sleeker design, and enhanced functionality. Regardless of whether it hits markets in 2024 or 2026, this tablet will surely become more attractive among premium compact tablets in the iPad Mini range.
