Key Points
- WhatsApp will soon be integrating advanced photo editing capabilities through Meta AI.
- Users will soon have the ability to send their photos for editing by Meta AI.
- This feature is being tested on WhatsApp beta for Android at present.
- The new update brings about more functionality than just generating images.
Moreover, generative AI chat features of WhatsApp are now being expanded with this capability. With that said, very soon users will be able to send their photo(s) directly to the MetPreview (opens in a new tab)a AI and request edits within the app.
According to WABetaInfo, which discovered the new feature in WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.14.20, it is a significant improvement in image interaction among users on WhatsApp.
By using simple text prompts, Meta AI can create images like other AI models such as ChatGPT do. This has caused its popularity on WhatsApp groups where numerous people can come up with pictures from simple textual commands. For example, unlike any of its competitors, the addition of photo editing implies progress for MetaAI.
🆕 WhatsApp for Android will reportedly get two new features on the new Meta AI:
1. Meta AI will now be able to reply to images you send
2. It will be able to edit the images. More ⤵️ pic.twitter.com/bz4bGofLVd— XiT (@XiT____) July 8, 2024
How It Works
It seems like this feature is user-friendly as it provides an easily accessible interface via the Meta AI chat platform. A new camera icon button allows users to upload pictures directly from their devices themselves.
Thereafter, when Meta AI uploads them or processes anything else on it- users can describe what they want to be changed and why.
While specifics regarding these editing possibilities still remain vague, its function promises full coverage. Perhaps there are basics such as cropping and filters or probably more technical manipulations seen on diverse apps designed purposely for photomontage e.g., Instagramming them?
Thus means that how photos are sent and edited on WhatsApp may be redefined by this move created by MetaAI.
Screenshots provided by WABetaInfo show a popup window explaining how simply one could upload & edit images, and the presence of the camera icon is all that matters since it wasn’t in the current Meta AI chat.
Privacy and Availability
Meta responded to concerns over privacy by stating that photos sent to Meta AI will be analyzed specifically for details on facial features. This analysis can be used to train Meta’s LlaMA model, thereby improving its AI capabilities.
Nonetheless, users have the right to delete their pictures whenever they so wish; hence there is no way of losing control over one’s private information.
For now, these functions are only available for a selected few using WhatsApp Beta for Android 2.24.14.20. If you are part of this beta group try updating your app to see if you can use this new feature or not as it may already be available with this version. With time, the feature should probably roll out into more stable versions of WhatsApp after successful testing.
This development indicates how Meta has continued embedding sophisticated AIs in common systems enabling wider audience reach to advanced tools.
As it becomes commonly used by all users who will download it from various sites where they get these apps free of charge, expect an increase in user interactions and other new ways of dealing with visual content on WhatsApp through its release here soon!
