  • Expected to launch soon at the Galaxy Unpacked event.

Inching closer to its official release, more and more information is being teased about the Samsung Galaxy Ring. A giant in the tech world, Samsung is primed to make a huge splash in the smart ring space.

Originally shown off by way of prototypes at MWC 2024, the Galaxy Ring is now almost ready for its closeup at next month’s Galaxy Unpacked event.

Especially considering how new gadgets often get pushed aside for whatever comes next, it’s impressive how much intrigue has been generated around the Samsung Galaxy Ring. It isn’t just another piece of hardware; it could change the game for people who want something less intrusive than a smartwatch.

Peek inside the code uncovers features

A teardown of the Samsung Health app by Android Authority recently discovered some of what users can expect from the Galaxy Ring. Namely, that it will have multiple advanced sensors — which should attract health-conscious shoppers.

Heart Rate and Stress Monitoring

The inclusion of heart rate and stress-level sensors means wearers will be able to keep tabs on their well-being like never before with a device this size or shape.

Skin Temperature Measurement

Being able to measure skin temperature opens up a range of possibilities: It could help predict menstrual cycles among other things. That kind of convenience could bring in a lot more users than if it were absent.

Snoring Detection

But perhaps most surprising is that this thing is also supposed to detect snoring — though only when used as part of a larger sleep-tracking system involving one’s phone acting as a companion device.

These points indicate that much like with various iterations of its popular watch line, Samsung appears to be positioning the Galaxy Ring as a more compact and less obtrusive version able to perform many of the same health-tracking functions.

Why the Galaxy Ring is important

Smartwatches have so far been the de facto device for health tracking, but they’re not for everyone. The Galaxy Ring represents a shift toward more discreet wearables that can provide users with similar data in a less obvious manner.

If this ring can do everything its competitor does — monitor heart rate, stress, skin temperature and so on — without being nearly as bulky or obvious about it, then there’s no reason why someone who has been reluctant to try any kind of wearable tech wouldn’t want one.
