But this isn’t just another blockchain project. With Soneium, Sony wants to reshape how creators and fans interact by combining the power of Ethereum Layer 2 technology with easy-to-use tools for the entertainment world.
What’s Soneium All About?
At its core, Soneium is Sony’s effort to bring blockchain into the mainstream — without making it complicated. The platform was created by Sony Block Solutions Labs (Sony BSL), a division dedicated to exploring Web3 technologies.
Sota Watanabe, a director at Sony BSL, put it simply:
“Soneium is for everyone. You don’t need to know anything about Web3 to use it. The goal is to make the technology so seamless, people don’t even realize they’re using blockchain.”
That’s the big idea here: using blockchain to empower creators and engage fans, but in a way that feels natural and effortless. Whether it’s through NFT-based fan experiences or tools to help creators get paid fairly, Soneium aims to make Web3 a part of everyday entertainment.
What Makes Soneium Different?
1 – Fan Engagement Through NFTs
With Soneium, creators can connect with their fans in a deeper, more interactive way.
Think NFT-based perks, exclusive content, and new ways to engage directly with your favorite artists or entertainers.
2 – Developer Support with Soneium Spark
Sony is also backing innovation.
Through its Soneium Spark program, the company selected 32 projects from over 1,700 applicants to build apps and experiences for the platform.
3 – USDC Integration
To make transactions simple and secure, Sony partnered with Circle to integrate USDC, a popular stablecoin. This makes it easier for users to exchange value within the platform.
A Shift in Sony’s Approach to Web3
While many companies focus on selling NFTs or collectibles, Sony is taking a bigger-picture approach. With Soneium, the company is building infrastructure for an entire entertainment ecosystem.
Soneium has officially launched it’s Mainnet
With two key projects:
1⃣ SNFT – A fan engagement platform that can issue NFTs

This means tools and resources for music, film, and gaming — three areas where Sony already has deep roots. And instead of just benefiting big-name creators, Soneium aims to help everyday artists too.
Sony also plans to tackle long-standing industry challenges like:
- Protecting creator rights.
- Ensuring fair value sharing between creators and fans.
By solving these problems, Soneium hopes to create a more equitable and connected entertainment world.
